Holiday

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

The remainder of December has consisted of school finals, travelling, working, knitting, shopping, Vegas, skiing, snow, Christmas, and a bit of planning, among other things.  It doesn’t seem like that much happened, but time certainly did fly.

As a sort of pre-Christmas-holiday vacation, we ventured up to Las Vegas (sans Caleb) for a couple of nights.  It’s so lively there compared to where we live (obviously), so the change of pace was interesting.  Also, I’m a big fan of lights, which Vegas most definitely does not lack.  It also seemed to have an abundance of sketchy people and scantilly clad women, but I s’pose that’s beside the point.  My mom and I got tickets to see “Ice”, which was basically a Vegas-style-Russian-ice-skating show, which was quite swell.

On our way back we detoured through Flagstaff and met up with Caleb (and a friend) for a bit of snow-related fun.  It was horridly frigid (I had 7 layers and was still cold), but the snow was absolutely lovely for skiing/snowboarding no less!

Then we returned home, spent Christmas Eve with grandparents and lazily slept in and had a swell Christmas day (complete with our annual eating of Christmas Chinese food and the watching of the Doctor Who Christmas Special).

And now it’s the end of year, which seems to have come rather quickly.  Aye, so much has happened this year!  We’ve been blessed with positive experiences and amazing opportunities!  Hopefully yours was the same. :)

(15 days until I leave for Belfast!)

Oh, Canada

I quite miss Vancouver; it’s such a lovely place.  A bit chilly, yes, and sort of depressingly overcast at times… But it’s still pretty awesome in my book.

I tried to do all the touristy-ish things that I neglected to do while I was there last year, while also re-doing all my favourites things (which, honestly, basically consisted of the Wired Monk).  One of the highlights was definitely the Vancouver Aquarium.  A lot of things in Vancouver are really tourist-based-cheesy-type-things, so I was kind of expecting that from the aquarium as well.  It ended up being really cool, and I pretty much fell in love with the jellyfish exhibit.  It was pretty epic.

Also, adorable sea otters and a baby beluga whale (aweee).

I find the architecture and buildings in Vancouver really intriguing.  The library looks like a giant Roman coliseum, and there’s such an eclectic mix of styles throughout the city, it’s seriously fascinating.

Oh, and water.  Water is a big bonus.

And of course, friends.  Which was pretty much the main reason I went.  I stayed with Amy (my roommate from last year), so it was really nice to see her and go on adventures with other Vancouver-dwelling people.  (Invisible-Ukulele-Playing-Amy on the left, and Invisible-Book-Finding-Ione on the right.)

And Shannon, whom I somehow neglected to take a picture of.  Which is sort of sad, considering it was her birthday.  But, she’s equally awesome.  :)
